Get connected online


Connect to the internet via 3G or a local WiFi network. Organise your favourite web pages with bookmarks, so that you have quick access to them. Connect your Nokia E63 to the photos, music and files on your computer. Share and back-up your calendar and contacts online.


Connect to the internet with WLAN

Your device can detect and connect to wireless local area networks (WLAN). Using a WLAN, you can connect your device to the internet. To use a WLAN connection, you must create an internet access point (IAP) for the WLAN. Use the access point for applications that need to connect to the internet.

Use the WLAN wizard to create an access point

1. You can access the WLAN wizard directly from your home screen’s information area. Another way to get to the WLAN wizard is to select Menu > Connectivity > WLAN wizard.

2. If the search finds WLANs, you can create an internet access point – scroll to the connection, select Options > Start web browsing. If you select a secured WLAN, you will be asked to enter the relevant password. To connect to a hidden network, you must enter the correct network name (service set identifier, SSID).

3. To end the active connection, select the connection > Options and Exit. If you want to define whether you want to use the WLAN or packet data connection when starting to browse the web, you can set it so that the device always asks which access point is to be used.



Set up an access point inquiry when you open the browser

1. Select Options > Settings.
2. Select General > Access point, and from Always ask - You always get to select which access point you use.


Browse the web

1. You can open the Web directly from your home screen application shortcut bar.
2. Enter the web address manually, and select Go to.
3. You can also enter the web by choosing a bookmark – scroll to it, select Options > Open.


Keep confidential information safe

If you have accessed confidential information requiring passwords, empty the cache after each use. The cache is a memory location that is used to store data temporarily, and where the information or services you have accessed are stored.

1. Open the web browser.
2. Select Options > Clear privacy data > Clear cache.

Shortcut keys for web browsing

You can use keyboard shortcut keys when browsing to be more efficient.

* – Zoom in on the page.
# – Zoom out from the page.
2 – Open the search dialog.
5 – View active pages.
8 – View the page overview.
9 – Open the dialog box to enter a new web address.
0 – Open the bookmarks folder.



Tip
When you start entering an address, the addresses of pages you have previously visited that match your input are displayed. To open a page, scroll to its address, and press the scroll key.

Save your favourite pages to bookmarks

The bookmarks view opens when you open the Web application. You can select web addresses from a list or from bookmark folders if you have created your own folders. Your Nokia E63 also saves visited web pages automatically to the Auto bookmarks folder.

Add a page to bookmarks

1. When on the page, select Options > Save as bookmark.
2. Give the bookmark a name and select OK. The bookmark is saved in your bookmark view.


Sort bookmarks

You can sort the bookmarks into folders, edit, and delete bookmarks with the Bookmark manager.

1. To create a new folder, select Options > Bookmark Manager and New folder.
2. Give a name to the folder, and select OK.
3. To mark the bookmarks you want to move to the folder, scroll to the bookmark and select Options > Mark/Unmark and Mark.
4. Select Options > Bookmark manager and Move to folder.
5. Choose the folder you want to move the bookmark into, and select Move.


Setting up internet calls

Your device supports internet calls. With the internet call service (network service), you can make and receive calls over the internet using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology. Internet calls can be established between computers, between mobile phones, and between a VoIP device and a traditional telephone. To make or receive a net call, your device must be within WLAN coverage.

Create a net call profile

1. Select Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection.
2. Select SIP settings > Options > New SIP Profile, and enter the required information.
3. Select Back until you return to the Connection settings main view.
4. Select Internet tel. > Options > New profile. Enter a name for the profile, and select the SIP profile you just created.

To set the profile you want to use automatically whenever you connect to the net call service, select Menu > Communication > Internet telephone > Preferred profile.


Two ways to make an internet call

To make or receive an internet call, your device must be connected to a net call service. If you have selected automatic login, your device automatically connects to the net call service.

1. Select Contacts, scroll to the desired contact, and select Call > Internet call.
2. To make an internet call in from the home screen, enter the IPS address, and press the call key.


Files on Ovi

You can browse, search, and view your files and documents. You can step through individual pages of documents, and control the zoom setting to read text on your mobile phone.

Download music – Lets you download music from your computer to your mobile phone.
After downloading music, simply use the music player on your phone to listen. You can get to your music anytime without connecting your phone physically to your computer.

Send files – You can send your computer’s files and folders to friends, straight from your mobile phone.
Sent files go straight from your computer to the recipient, so you don’t have to wait to move files to and from your mobile phone.

Anytime Files – Access your files on your computer, even when it’s turned off.
Choose which folders and files you want to be available, and Files automatically keeps an up-to-date copy stored in a secure ‘Anytime Files’ online storage locker for access anytime.


Get started with Files on Ovi

1. Select Menu > Installations and Files on Ovi.
2. Read the information on the display, and select Continue.
3. Scroll down to the email field, and press the scroll key to activate it.
4. Enter your email address, and select Done.
5. Select Send. The Files on Ovi service sends you an email with information to get you started.
