Sign your name on the face of the Earth?
It’s always interesting to hear about people pushing the boundaries of the technology available on Nseries devices. Nokia Sports Tracker allows users to plot their position and tag locations. Here’s an interesting project that was made possible using Sports Tracker functionality on a Nokia N82 device. Why not sign your name across your part of the world?
As well as using Sports Tracker, you could sign your name using Nokia viNe.
Alsay’s story – signing my name on the face of the Earth.
I use my N82 a lot to take photos of the things around me and document interesting things I come across. But I’m always looking to try something new.
I’d used the Nokia Sports Tracker applications a few times to track trips and hikes – I like using it because it shows more information than other similar apps and it shows the track of your walk in real time.
I wanted to try something a little creative with it and one day last October I had the idea of writing my name on the world using the tracker. I was sitting on a bench watching my University mates playing football. The match got a bit boring so I started playing with my N82, browsing through the applications for a bit of inspiration. I was messing about with Sports Tracker when the idea began dawning on me.
My university campus, built in the desert area, has plenty of space around it so I just started walking. Although I found myself having to go through a bit of metal waste over a few sand dunes, it wasn’t that difficult. I finished the walk in 25 minutes and came home to play with the data.
One of the best features of the Sports Tracker is that you can export the track files in many formats that tracking websites support, so I made a KML file out of my work and opened it in Google Earth. So here it is, my name written on the face of the Earth!
